LODESTONE THEATRE ENSEMBLE PRESENTS THE WORLD PREMIERE OF “AZIATIK NATION ‘04”
A LOOK AT ASIAN AMERICANS AND CONTEMPORARY POLITICS
AS PART OF THE 11TH ANNUAL TREASURE IN THE HOUSE SERIES
LOS ANGELES, CA — Lodestone Ensemble Theatre presents AZIATIK NATION ‘04, a world premiere production at Highways Performance Space. This is the inaugural event of the 11th annual edition of TREASURE IN THE HOUSE–Highways Performance Space’s annual Asian Pacific American Performance and Visual Arts series.
AZIATIK NATION ‘04 uses comedy, drama, music and movement to explore how issues such as the 9/11 terrorist attacks, The War in Iraq, same-sex marriage and other hot-button topics effect the Asian Pacific American community. The show attempts to give voice to the diversity of opinions in the community by attempting to show a “fair and balanced” portrayal of those on the left, the right and everything in-between.
The performance is written and directed by Philip W. Chung. It stars Lodestone members Nechelle Fabiana, Yi Lin, Jeff Liu, Leonard Wu and Eve Yeung, and is produced by Annie K. Rollins and Marie Wong and associate produced by Nic Cha Kim. The show was developed and conceived through improv work and exercises that took place over the course of the past year.
“In this very important election year, we thought it was vital that we create work that addresses the relationship between Asian Americans and the current political climate,” says writer/director Philip W. Chung. “Our intent with this show is to not only explore the diversity of political opinions within our community, but hopefully also inspire the audience to give more thought to their role in the political process and maybe even become more involved in that very process.”
Philip W. Chung is one of the founders of Lodestone Theatre Ensemble, an award-winning Asian American theatre company based in Los Angeles. He currently serves as the group’s Co-Artistic Director. He has written, produced or directed numerous works for the company including directing the recent Edgefest 2004/L.A. History Project presentation of Elizabeth Wong’s CHINA DOLL and the first Lodestone short film HARLEQUIN.
Performances run November 19-20, 26-27, 2004 with a low priced preview on November 18. All shows are at 8:30 pm. Ticket prices are: $15 General Admission, $13 Students with Valid ID, $12 Groups of 10 or More (group tickets must be purchased in advance) and $10 for the November 18th preview.
