LACMA’S HIGHLY-ANTICIPATED 12TH ANNUAL MUSE ARTWALK
Art lovers and collectors unite downtown for cutting-edge art, djs, and drinks
Los Angeles – The Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s membership program, Muse—the largest group in the nation for youthful art patrons—presents its twelfth annual ArtWalk on Saturday, April 22, 2006. One of Muse’s most popular events, ArtWalk leads Muse members and non-members alike through Los Angeles’ vibrant and diverse visual arts scene. This year, the day begins with a self-guided tour of downtown’s burgeoning Gallery Row from noon–6 pm, and culminates with a fundraising reception, live djs, and cocktails at the historic St. Vibiana’s Cathedral from 6–9 pm.
With more than twenty galleries and businesses participating, ArtWalk provides a unique opportunity to discover the work of local artists, and expand personal collections in one art-filled day. Just some of the participants include: de Soto, 2nd St. Cigars & Gallery, M.J. Higgins Fine Art & Furnishings, Pharmaka, L.A. Center for Digital Arts (LACDA), El Nopal Press, Bert Green Fine Art, Niche.LA, Kristi Engle Gallery, Art Murmur Gallery, 626 Gallery, Modern Art Downtown, Gallery 727, The Hive Gallery, Infusion Gallery, Fine Arts Building Gallery, Downtown Art Gallery, Crewest Gallery…and many more.
But the day doesn’t end when the gallery doors close. When the sun sets, Muse’s celebration begins, complete with open bar, an exclusive “Muse Cocktail,” treats from Ciudad, Pete’s Café & Bar, and Pit Fire Pizza Co., DJ sets by bOby, and a performance by John Kelley of Ball of Waxx Music. Set against the exotic backdrop of the newly renovated performing arts center at St. Vibiana’s Cathedral—replete with Spanish-Baroque architecture, classical facades, and onyx and marble interior—the evening promises to be a feast for the senses from start to finish.
Tickets are $20 for Muse members, $30 for non-members, and $35 at the door, and can be purchased online at lacma.org or at the LACMA box office. Advance purchase is recommended. All proceeds benefit LACMA and help fund programs aimed at young collectors in Los Angeles.
Already in its 12th year, LACMA Muse is the largest museum membership program in the nation for young and youthful patrons of the arts. Created as a strategic way to attract a fresh audience to the arts and the museum, Muse members are comprised of an affluent and influential group that has grown to approximately 3,000.
